How To Make Great Looking Videos

I know that a number of those reading this blog are interested in creating full motion videos. That’s where you use a camcorder and then edit your final video. From there you will want to upload your video… maybe to YouTube or one of those other video hosting companies.

But how can you create great looking video? Especially if you have no one to teach you how to create eye catching videos. Many people will tell you to watch television. But today’s television editor is not really the person to learn from. Usually they have a tight deadline and just really don’t care to create masterpieces for viewing at 7 PM.

So where can you go to get the best ideas for creating video?

Well, let me tell you about a great source for outstanding video editing.

But before I do I must tell you that these special videos do come for a profit making company. So you will have to accept that they will try to sell you something. And what they sell can make your videos even better. I know since I’ve spent several thousands of dollars buying their specials they list each week. In fact, one is on the way as I write this.

OK. The source of great video is at Digital Juice. What you want is the Digital Juice Television. You may have to search the page but I found a large ad right in the bottom middle of their page. I recommend their magazine and newsletter too. Even if you aren’t in the market for special effects their articles and announcements for the latest Digital Juice Television are worthwhile.

This is just another of the resources that I use to keep current with my video business and I do recommend their products. I’ve been very happy with them. In fact, the only problem is that I am going broke saving money on their specials :-)

Do You Have This Problem With The Flash Player?

The other day, before TechSmith announced a new version of Camtasia, I clicked on my existing Camtasia 3.1 and found there was a new update. I installed it, made a flash video, uploaded it and then tried to open the player. I got one of those messages. Here is what I sent to TechSmith’s technical support.

ust updated to the latest version of Camtasia 3.1.2 and now I get a window that says I need to enable JavaScript and install the latest version of the Flash Player to view videos. It only occurs with this last update. I have installed the latest Flash player until I can’t see straight and still get that same warning. And no way to get past it. What do I need to do to make my videos play online?

And here are the two answers I got back:

(1) We have had some reports from customers that this error continues to occur after updating Camtasia Studio. Based upon information in an Adobe Flash TechNote, you may need to fully uninstall and reinstall the Flash Player to resolve the problem.

Click below for the instructions from Adobe:

(2) Even though you may have the latest version of Flash, this error can still be caused by a few other issue. Do you make sure to upload the javascript that is new to 3.1.x versions of Camtasia Studio with your produced files? If this file is missing in your production folder on your web server, you would receive this error message.

The most interesting results that I got was that I then rendered the same video in Camtasia 4.0, uploaded it and it played with no problem.

If you watch my video at http://themultimediaguy.com/newsltrs/us012/ you’ll see what it looks like to record with Camtasia 3.1.2 and render the video in Camtasia 4.0.

Sometimes it’s better to use the old Camtasia 2.x and not have to worry about having the latest Flash player. But for most people that’s not an option unless they already have Camtasia 2.x. It may be old but in some ways it was better. You could easily embed the video right in your web page without having to add all the other code that now comes with Camtasia.

Change is not always better.

What are they doing at TechSmith?

What great timing from the people from TechSmith. I just got back from the JVAlert Live seminar and found the very next day that they had released a new version of Camtasia. The new version is 4.0 and the marketing information says it’s much better than the “older” version 3.1.2.

According to my information, that makes two complete new versions in less than one year from TechSmith. Now I know that technology is moving fast, but two in less than one year. Especially since Flash 9 has not been released yet.

Does that mean we will be faced with yet another release soon when Flash 9 is released?

I just created a new issue of Insider Video Alert and used my latest version of Camtasia 3.1.2. When I went to view the video I got a warning that I needed to enable JavaScript on my browser (try and find that) plus I needed the latest version of the Flash Player. Except my browser already accepts JavaScript and I’ve downloaded the latest Falsh Player a number of times (because of warnings like that one). I have sent a question to tech support to see what is going on. Especailly since I then rendered the same video using Camtasia 4.0 and uploaded it to the Web. No warning was displayed when I played the video. So did they fix a problem that was in their last patch?

Meanwhile, the rendered video with Camtasia 3.1.2 was 4.2 MB and the same video with Camtasia 4.0 was 4.66 MB. Not the way to go.

The only reasons I can come up with for this new update for Camtasia are:

(1) To get some simple updates out before any competitors do, or

(2) Get some income for their R&D before undertaking the costs for handling the new Flash 9.

My guess is the last reason. I believe they did the same thing for Camtasia 3.0 to 3.1. So hopefully the update to Flash 9 will be a no cost one.

My recommendations are to wait before updating to 4.0 unless you can get it free (because you just bought or just updated to 3.0). Right now 3.1 is stable. DO NOT update to 3.1.2. until I get my questions answered from tech support. I’m going to remove 3.1.2 from my computer since it’s causing my videos to not play on the Internet.

Are Internet Seminars Worthwhile?

I’m just back from three days of JVAlert Live in San Diego. This seminar is much like others. There were speakers (everyone got one hour to present with no exceptions… except for Ken), hot seats, Q&A, and lots of networking. And lots of socializing between attendees and speakers.

And that socializing between attendees and speakers was probably the most important time of the entire seminar. We met in the Marriott’s Pub on Thursday night. Since I didn’t drive San Diego but took the plane instead, I was there for the beginning. Only real problem is that pubs are noisy so it was a bit hard to talk.

Now if you go to many traditional seminars you know that when the day is done everyone just goes their own way. In fact, I’ve only seen two that didn”t do that, Joe Clayton’s DPCon and Ken McArthur’s JVAlert Live. Other than Friday night, when I somehow missed where everyone was going, Saturday and Sunday night most of us went to local restaurants together. No, dinner was not included in the price of the seminar. So separate checks please!

I presented at 8:30 AM on Sunday but not to a full house. Some of those that made my presentation said they went to bed around 3:30 AM that morning. I have no idea what time those who missed me speak got to bed. But most apologized to me afterwards.

And there was a group breakfast after the seminar… before we all left to catch planes.

Bottom line, this was definitely one of those seminars that was well worth being there.

For me, I got two pearls of wisdom, one after my presentation on Sunday and the other at breakfast on Monday. Just these two inputs alone will change how I do business and impact my future earnings. And these two inputs were something that money can’t buy…they were given to be helpful.

I’m only sorry that no one got my free ticket that I was giving away from my Insider Video Alert newsletter.

At least four speakers talked about video at the seminar. So I know that you can take it as social proof that video is the big mover on the Internet this year. And it will only get bigger.

Will I go to another JVAlert Live seminar?

Good question. Two years ago I decided to not go to a seminar unless I got a free ticket. In that time I’ve gone to four seminars without paying. Don’t know if I’ll get that chance for JVAlert Live in Orlando in February or not. However, I just might break my rule and pay if I have to.

I certainly would miss the people that I’ve become friends with from JVAlert Live. In fact, when I got home I realized that being with them made me feel proud that I am a Internet Marketer and Product Producer.
